music

Here you go, documentary evidence that I've played bass in a couple of bands over the years. Pictures may follow, depending on how self-conscious I feel about having early 90's era pictures of myself available to the public.

I've been playing bass since I was 17 or so, and cut my musical teeth playing bad Rush covers. After a couple years of progressive rock-related pretentiousness, I was broadsided by Jane's Addiction and Primus and got sucked into the wonderful world of "alternative rock". (That phrase used to mean something, kids.) Since then, I've put in time in bands playing funk, metal, ska, R&B, really mediocre jazz and the occasional foray into classic rock covers. Currently, I'm keeping myself occupied with computer games and cheap gin until Ben Folds calls me up for his touring band. Or James Brown. Or Joe Jackson. Or Audioslave. Okay, who am I fooling, if Britney Spears called I'd be ready to roll.

My main rig these days consists of a Pedulla Rapture 5-string electric and an NS Designs CR-5M 5-string electric upright, blasted through a truly excessive assortment of amplification. I have a nasty case of Music Gear Acquisition Syndrome, but it's mostly in remission these days. Oh yeah, I also have a set of bagpipes that I pull out whenever the neighbors have really pissed me off and I'm looking for sonic revenge.

Anyway, on to the music. First up, it's Doppler Circus, an alt rock band I played with back in 1998 or so. Be kind, we spent about $300 on this recording...
